Los: So today we are doing some more Round the Block Talk with designers. I got the incredible designer, web developer, marketer specialist Celia [inaudible] and then I got Gia "the old G" who does everything design, web and is just pretty much awesome all the way around, and myself, Los. So today we are talking about hiring a professional and why is it important to hire a professional? Celia what do you think?
Celia: Why, why, why? I'll tell you from my own personal experience. I'm a bit of a DIYist so I see cool stuff and I might think to myself, "Gosh that's really expensive. I bet you I could make that myself." And so I'll go and get the materials and watch a tutorial and I'll start putting it together and in three days and $500 later I'm like, "I quit!" It's really an emotional process for me because I really believed in my soul that I could reproduce this beautiful piece of furniture or piece of art. Reality is that I've wasted three days and $500 and I probably could have just gone out, bought it, and enjoyed it and carried on with my life and my business.
Gia: Right. Time is money when you're a professional. Your time is a dollar amount that represents something that you could be doing that you're going to bring into your business. You're going to bring that money back into your business instead of wasting it trying to create a website. You're not a web designer. It's frustrating. You're going to try to follow tutorials and you're going to get stuck and you're going to put it off and it's going to end up costing you more in the long run.
Los: Yes. I agree with that. just because you have access to the tools, just because you can go and get a Swigs account or whatnot, doesn't mean you should go do it or that you know how to do it. Let me ask you something. When was the last time you went and checked out a YouTube video, went to your garage, opened up your little toolbox, and tried to rebuild the engine in your car? You probably didn't. You ended up going with a professional who knew how to do it so you wouldn't waste your time learning everything. You wouldn’t waste your money trying to do it yourself and you ended up leaving the professional work for the professionals.
Gia: You get it done right the first time!
Los: Definitely!
Celia: You save yourself the anxiety and the stress.
Los: That's right. The moral of the story is to always hire a professional when it comes to trying to do things for your business. It's always great to do the cut around and the shortcuts but at the end of the day you're going to save money, time and sanity, and you're going to get better quality when you go with the professional.
