Kochi, India- formerly known as Cochin. it is also popularly known as the Queen of the Arabian Sea. It has one of the finest natural harbours of the world that made it the centre of the gobal spice trade for many centuries. Old Kochi loosely refers to a group of islands which comprise of Willingdon Island, Fort Kochi, Mattancherry etc.

Kochikkaran Kicha (Kochi's kicha) decided to have an early morning trip to Fort Kochi to catch a glimpse of fishing using Chinese fishing net.
He took the Jhangar from Vypin to Fort Kochi ,a 15 minutes ride over the backwaters (Jhangar services are available from 6am to 10.30pm).
Kicha on his bicycle got down at Fort Kochi boat jetty and headed towards Aspinwall (Aspinwall and Company Limited is one of the earliest commercial enterprises in the Malabar Coast, established in the year 1867)
Kicha had heard a lot about Aspinwall from his mother who used to work there before kicha was born. From there, he headed towards Vasco da Gama square, the must see place in Fort Kochi. As the tourists were less IN NUMBER, Kicha enjoyed his cycling in Vvasco da Gama square. Next to the square is the fish market and behind that you can see the huge Chinese fishing nets.

The sprawling Chinese fishing nets that droop towards the waters like over-sized hammocks have become a hallmark that represents Fort Kochi.

Chinese fishing nets are called as “Cheenavala” in Malayalam – is believed to have been introduced in Kochi by the Chinese in 1450 AD.

Kicha mingled with the group of fishermen and enjoyed fishing. (watch video)

After fishing ,a chaya and yummy poricha pathiri (Tea and Fried Pathri) made kicha’s trip to Fort Kochi gratifying.
