Smat Tattoos - YouTube The world between our hands
#Tech #Tattoo #Smartphone https://m.facebook.com/story.php?stor... #E-tattoos turn knuckles and freckles into smartphone controls Tattoos that turn #skin into a #touchscreen Make the most of that beauty spot. Ultrathin temporary #electronic tattoos can now turn body blemishes into touch-sensitive #buttons, letting you #control your smartphone with your own wrinkles, freckles and other #skin features. People intuitively know the location of their own bumps and birthmarks, which makes them ideal locations for touch-sensitive buttons, says #Martin Weigel at Saarland University in Saarbrücken, #Germany, who has #led the #research. You could squeeze a freckle to #answer a #phone #call, or slide a #finger over your knuckles to change the volume of your music. Weigel and his colleagues at #Saarland University and #Google used #conductive ink to print wires and electrodes on temporary tattoo paper. The tattoos, which they call #SkinMarks, are thinner than the width of a #human hair. They are transferred onto the skin using water and last a #couple of days before #rubbing off. “We make use of the elastic properties of the skin, including bending and stretching,” says team member #Jürgen Steimle, also at Saarland University. By having the tattoos responsive to changes in the skin surface, they incorporate #multiple #commands at #one location.

Toyota FT-4X concept designed for city and dirt - YouTube The world between our hands
#Tech #Cars #FT-4X #TOYOTA Toyota FT-4X concept designed for city and dirt Link Facebook :https://www.facebook.com/theworldbetw... Toyota's new concept, unveiled at the New York auto show, explores the idea of a compact SUV capable of going from an urban commute straight to offroad adventures. The concept was designed at Toyota's California studio, and the company specifically called out millennials living in the San Francisco Bay Area as a target audience. The FT-4X is roughly comparable in size to the Jeep Renegade. The step-side seems unnecessary, given the car's height, but it can help with stowing cargo on the roof. The interior is designed with versatility in mind. At the New York auto show unveiling, the concept was shown with no rear seats, although we can assume seats would be available. Link YouTube : NEW YORK (April 12, 2017) – It’s only natural. In the busyness of city-based work life there emerges a growing urge to “get away”. For millennial-aged professionals confined to city limits, oftentimes these getaways are unplanned, and are of the casual, less extreme kind. (No time for summiting a mountain – a drive to the scenic point will do!) It’s a four-wheel drive toolbox penned by Toyota’s Calty Design Research Inc. in Newport Beach, California. With its long list of unique functionalities and a Rugged Charm compact design, the FT-4X is the seamless conduit of popular Casualcore – rather than hardcore – outings by anyone, anytime. “As designers, we’re investing deep thought into the emotional connection with our cars,” said Calty President, Kevin Hunter. “The Toyota FT-4X is not simply a concept where style meets function; it is a thoughtful, charming and engaging experience that adds real pleasure and convenience to the journey. We focused on how a crossover vehicle can add fun and value to casual adventures both in and out of the city, thinking about how someone would use it, and what they would love to do with it.” THE EMERGENCE OF CASUALCORE EXPLORATION A shift from multiday, extreme, high-effort excursions to brief, unplanned, casual adventures is an overwhelming reality for Generation Y. Millennials are fond of the outdoors, but operate almost always indoors. They enjoy venturing into to new neighborhoods and national parks, but hardly plan ahead. Their countless interactions on social media bring inspiration. It is the busyness of their nonstop daily lives that pushes them past the precipice of “liking” a digital snapshot into the realm of creating their own, in reality. Their adventures begin curbside, in a parking structure, or in the depths of an underground garage. Dinner on the beach during a beautiful evening; tailgating with friends while listening to music; visiting a favorite trailhead for a run or dog walk; settling next to a campfire for an overnight desert stay – these are the types of quick escapes that an increasing number of young, career-minded urbanites hold dear. Always ready to go? They are – and so is the Toyota FT-4X. RUGGED CHARM PERSONA Casualcore adventures originate in the city. Knowing this, Calty’s designers instituted a Rugged Charm ethos when creating the FT-4X. Rugged Charm places value on simplicity, capability, durability, and Toyota lineage. Furthermore, it takes into account compact, sturdy dimensions, and a charming ubiquitous tactility of grips, handles, and controls (the notion of feeling a satisfying mechanical reaction to a user’s input). “You can really tell that we had a blast designing the FT-4X because it looks fun to use and fun to drive,” described Calty Studio Chief Designer, Ian Cartabiano. “I love this idea of mechanical satisfaction because while we’re living in today’s digital world, we took something that’s based on physical movements and made that a large part of what this vehicle is. We want everyone to interact with this car and feel a sense of delight and excitement.” Designers approached their work uncharacteristically. Rather than begin their styling processes at the nose or profile, they began at the rear. Why? In their months’ long research, they noticed that basecamp for Gen Y explorers was oftentimes the destination itself. Cherished experiences were had in and around this basecamp, usually at their vehicle’s tailgate or hatch. Small, yet strong outdoor activity gear inspired the FT-4X’s expressive looks. For its exterior, stylists imbued an X Theme throughout the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) C-Platform. Imagine this: At the center of a vertical X (which bows outward) is a door handle, or, in essence, the widest part of FT-4X (71.7 in.). This places the broadest area near the driver and passenger, creating a natural protective zone. At the rear, the bowed vertical X can be seen at the rear hatch, again placing the door handle at the center and creating a protective space.

Speediest Electronic Ski Test - YouTube The world between our hands
#Tech #Ski #Electronic #Speediest Norwegians develop electronic ski bindings to speed up cross-country trails. Link Facebook :https://www.facebook.com/theworldbetw... Binding placement is important for staying fast while cross-country skiing and this electronic ski binding allows for those subtle adjustments without stopping. As any cross-country skier knows, there is a lot more to it than skiing up and down a set of snowy hills. By adjusting the bindings, skiers improve their grip going uphill or the glide going downhill. However, in order to adjust the binding, skiers have to take off their skis. That is not helpful if they are trying to make their movement more efficient Rottefella, one of Norway’s top binding developers, has teamed up with Semcon to create a new kind of electronic binding. While skiing, users can move the binding forward for grip and backward for glide. It is another way that Norwegians remain on the forefront of ski technology. More: Ski the slopes of Whistler Blackcomb with Destination BC’s 360-degree videos “The binding makes elite skiers more effective in the trail, but also increases skiing pleasure for ordinary ski enthusiasts who can enjoy better control and grip as they ski,” Semcon product manager Odd Oystein Ra said. “As a passionate skier and engineer, this has been a dream project for me.” To change the binding on the go, skiers operate a remote control built into a ski pole. Using Bluetooth, the remote control drives tiny motors in the binding to let it slide forward and back. Skiers can make an adjustment of up to two inches. While subtle, this change makes all the difference in performance. Currently, there is no price attached to the developing product. Rettefella and Semcon are working hard to ensure the new binding will hit the market in 2018. Every electronic binding will be produced directly in Norway. “Our extensive experience of product development in cross-country skiing and ski bindings combined with Semcon’s technical expertise has made it possible to create a groundbreaking new product,” Rottefella’s Manager of Research and Development Oyvar Svendsen said.

The Wakejet electric wakeboard (now you can) - YouTube The world between our hands
With the #Wakejet #electric #wakeboard, there’s no need for #waves, #wind, or a #boat... Link Facebook :https://www.facebook.com/theworldbetw... The Wakejet electric wakeboard turns wakeboarding into a solo sport, eliminating the need for a boat -- if you have enough discretionary cash at your disposal. Ask anyone who has ever tried wakeboarding, and they’ll probably tell you that it can be lot of fun. After all, the sport combines elements of waterskiing, surfing, and even snowboarding, allowing participants to skim along the surface of a body of water at high speeds. Traditionally, wakeboarding isn’t a solo sport, as it requires a boat to tow the rider along behind it. But a company called Radinn is looking to change that with the Wakejet Cruise, the world’s first electric wakeboard. The first Wakejet prototype was created in 2013 as a university project by a group of Swedish students. Radinn’s CEO recognized the potential in the device and immediately began assembling a team of mechanical and electrical engineers who could turn those early designs into a viable commercial product. It took them three years to achieve that goal, but the electric wakeboard finally went on sale in 2016. Powered by a 15-horsepower electric motor and controlled by a handheld remote, the Wakejet is surprisingly quiet as it zips across the water. The board is capable of hitting speeds of up to 28 mph, and will run for 30 minutes at top speed — and even longer at slower velocities. The Wakejet’s 48-volt battery requires two hours to fully recharge before hitting the water once again. The board itself is made out of carbon fiber and Kevlar, which helps keep weight down while still maintaining a high level of durability. As a result, the Wakejet weighs just 55 pounds, making it fairly easy to transport to and from the water. And like most other wakeboards, it is small enough to carry in a car or SUV without the need for a special rack. While the Wakejet provides plenty of freedom for riders, allowing them to board without the need for a tow boat, it doesn’t come cheap. Priced at about $16,000, this wakeboard is definitely a luxury item. But for wakeboarders who do have the discretionary income, the Wakejet can be purchased directly from Radinn’s website with a $1,500 deposit.

Camera DJI PHANTOM 4 PRO - YouTube The world between our hands
#Tech #Camera #Feature #Sky #DJI Phantom 4 Pro review Link : https://m.facebook.com/story.php?stor... The #good Camera #features, easy-to-master flight controls and upgrades on the previous generation prove that DJI knows what it's doing. The #bad Sticker #price and investing in additional batteries means the #Phantom 4 Pro doesn't come cheap. The #bottom line The price puts it just outside of "entry level," but the Phantom 4 Pro is a no-brainer if you're serious about drone photography. $1,435.00 The #DJI Phantom 4 Pro feels like it was designed from the ground up to be the perfect assistant for a drone #photographer. Expect to pay extra for those "pro" features in the name, but fantastic automated camera functions, robust controls and a frankly ludicrous top speed make it very easy to see where your #money goes. #Key #Specs 1388g (3.06 pounds) 350mm diagonally (13.7 inches) Approx 28 minutes flight time Controller with flight and camera controls (optional touchscreen) 72kph (45mph) Front and rear collision detection The #DJI Phantom 4 Pro #sells for for $1,500, AU$2,600 or £1,590 with the standard controller. If you want the #high-luminance display controller, you're looking at $1,800, AU$3,100 or £1,820. And based on our test flights, you're gonna want to spring for the screen. The Phantom 4 Pro also bundles in front and rear sensors for collision detection, underslung sensors for safer landings and infrared systems on both sides that allow the drone to figure out where it is within a space. Coupled with an improved return-to-home mode with a range of 300 metres (984 feet), it's the safest DJI in the sky. The chunky body of the controller hasn't changed, but it still feels incredibly responsive. The included touchscreen on the pricier Pro Plus model is incredibly bright and easily viewable in direct sunlight, and it puts all your flight and camera settings within easy reach. The Phantom's chassis itself is pretty much identical to its predecessor, too. It's light enough to comfortably carry in its supplied polystyrene carry case, and the propellers easily clip on to the motors making setup a blissfully simple process. For our troubles, we got close to 30 minutes flight time off the battery, which was a significant step up from the Phantom 3. #Camera #specs 4K video at 60fps Max video bitrate 100Mbps 128GB MicroSD 20-megapixel, 1-inch CMOS sensor Mechanical shutter Aperture control f2.8-f11 It's the got usual suite of features you'll find in good camera-equipped drones, like orbital modes and follow modes. But the thing that really deserves commenting on is how good the automated features are.

Laser-Truck weapons for the army - YouTube The world between our hands
#Laser #Weapon #Tech #Lockheed #Martin Has a #Laser For the #Army Link : https://m.facebook.com/story.php?stor... Rendering of the #laser mounted to a #truck. #Lockheed #Martin While everyone complains about the fact that they don't have a #jetpack or a flying car yet, the #military has patiently waited for its #killer laser beams. Lockheed Martin says that it will hand off exactly that to the #Army in the #next #few #months. The weapons manufacturer says it has successfully #tested a new #laser #weapon at 58 #kilowatts of #power. To give an idea of what that means, #Boeing was able to blow a mortar out of the sky in 2014 with its HEL MD at 10 kilowatts of power. Lockheed says it will hit 60 kilowatts #by the time it ships. The combined #fiber #laser uses #multiple individual lasers that are focused together into a single #beam. It's a big device, but it should be able to fit onto an armored #truck. The Navy has previously deployed a laser with about half the power on a ship in the Persian Gulf. That weapon requires a #big #battery and wouldn't be viable in an on-the-ground mobile situation. Lockheed's design is both lighter and more #powerful than anything in use. It still isn't small enough to make a handheld blaster and it wouldn't be used for targeting individual people. The goal is to combat small aircraft, drones, and rockets. Offensive capabilities would likely be possible, but impractical. As technology has become more affordable, non-state combatants like ISIS have had easier access to drones and remote-controlled machine guns. Lasers are believed to be a system that would be effective at targeting those systems for little cost. Recently Gen. David Perkins gave a presentation in which he discussed a $3 million Patriot missile being used to take down a $300 drone. A laser interception of that same drone would come at the price of a little bit of electricity and travel at the speed of light. Unfortunately, Lockheed's tech keeps the worst part of laser guns: potentially killing people. But it doesn't have the best part: visible laser beams. The concept illustrations only show a red beam for effect.

Nvidia Self driving car PX Technology - YouTube The world between our hands
#Tech #cars #future Link :https://m.facebook.com/story.php?stor... #Nvidia and #Bosch team up to build an AI supercomputer for your #self-driving car The key is #Xavier, Nvidia's forthcoming supercomputer system-on-chip. It seems that barely a day goes by without news of a tech company teaming up with the auto industry to advance the art of self-driving vehicles. it was #Nvidia and #Bosch's turn. In an announcement at Bosch Connected World in #Berlin, #Germany, the two companies revealed that they are collaborating on an onboard computer capable of running the AI necessary for self-driving. #Based on #Nvidia's Drive #PX technology—which also powers semi-autonomous Teslas—the Bosch will also use Nvidia's forthcoming "Xavier" AI system-on-chip. Nvidia says that Xavier is capable of 20 #trillion operations per second while drawing just 20 #watts of #power, meaning the Bosch car computer should be #smaller and cheaper than Nvidia's current Drive PX 2 unit. "We want #automated driving to be possible in every situation. As early as the next decade, driverless cars will also be a part of everyday life. Bosch is advancing automated driving on all technological fronts. We aim to assume a #leading role in the field of artificial #intelligence, too," Bosch CEO Dr. #Volkmar Denner said in a statement. "Self-driving cars is a challenge that can finally be solved with recent breakthroughs in deep learning and artificial intelligence," said Jen-Hsun Huang, Nvidia's founder and #CEO. "Using DRIVE PX AI car computer, Bosch will build automotive-grade systems for the mass production of autonomous cars." However, it will be some time before any of us are being driven around by cars powered by this collaboration; production is expected "by the beginning of the next decade," according to Bosch.

Smart Gloves For Bikers 2017 - YouTube The world between our hands
#Tech #Bikers #Smartgloves SMART GLOVE GIVES BIKERS TURN-BY-TURN NAVIGATION Links :https://m.facebook.com/story.php?stor... It could be a decent solution for motorcyclists fed up with trying to follow turn-by-turn data on their smartphone. If you’re a motorcyclist that enjoys longer rides to new places, there’s a good chance that you mount your smartphone on your handlebars and fire up a maps app to find your way. But for some this is not an ideal solution. Atlanta biker Steve Friedlander, for one, found that the display could sometimes be hard to see, whether because of harsh light or the shaking from bumps in the road. “Sometimes I would drive my car instead of riding just because I needed GPS,” Friedlander told Digital Trends. The problem inspired him to develop the TurnPoint, a smart glove with a Bluetooth LE device that pulls data from your smartphone to show turn-by-turn directions via 18 super-bright LED lights. The circular device is removable and slots into the top side of the left glove so it’s easy to see. So you can receive all the information you need at a glance, pretty much without taking your eyes off the road, making for a safer ride. And there’s more. The glove incorporates a switch-like feature that lets you use your fingertips to control the connection between the device and your phone. Touch your thumb and pointer finger together and an LED sequence lights up on the TurnPoint device indicating the distance and direction to the next turn. This not only prevents the LEDs from becoming a distraction, but also lets you actively check for the next turn, and even helps to preserve the TurnPoint’s battery life, which currently stands at around eight hours on a single charge. The design is also set to include additional fingertip switches for functions such as displaying a compass and showing battery life. The TurnPoint is a Kickstarter project that’s looking for $125,000 of funding. Friedlander, who has more than 20 years of experience in UX design, engineering, and consumer gadget development, has already built working prototypes of the glove-based device, the glove, and the app.
